Prisoners’ Aid and Rehabilitation Society (PARS)
Some ex-inmates need help following their release from prison, for example accommodation, work, community support and health care. Sometimes the victims are also the family of the inmate and help is needed to manage this situation.

Petone Settlers Museum - Passenger and Family History Database
This unique database, which has been growing since 1990, contains information on both Maori and European migration and settlement in Te Whanganui a Tara from 1839 to 1897. There is information on individuals and the ships in which they came, together with hundreds of family trees submitted by descendants of these early settlers.

Catholic Social Services offers anger management and violence prevention programmes for individuals and groups. Programmes are: Living Without Violence – an educational programme for males and Making Choices – a women’s learning group.There are professional counselors for stress management and depression, communication and relationship difficulties, conflict resolution and there is a programme to support women who are living in violent relationships. STOP can assist you with direction and encouragement towards the control of unwanted or inappropriate sexual behaviour. This includes unwanted or inappropriate touching, oral, anal or vaginal penetration, exposure, peeping, obscene telephone calls, child pornography, pornography addiction, bestiality, sexual harassment and Internet use for inappropriate sexual purposes.
The programme is set up to provide treatment for men and adolescents who have been sexually abusive and who are ready to do something about it. Wellington STOP works with other victim and family agencies.

I Am a Teenager and I Am Pregnant

The House of Grace in Newlands offers accommodation for up to six girls at a time from the lower North Island and Upper South Island areas and caters for ages from 12-23 years (under 15s need parental, guardian or agency consent).
It’s a place where pregnant teenagers can be with people in similar circumstances, have support, learn and get ready for their new responsibilities.
The House of Grace runs a programme that teaches girls the basics of looking after a home (budgeting, cooking and housekeeping), parenting skills and child health education and life skills and encourages them to continue with their own education. For information call 04-920 5667.

I Am Over the Age of 57

Age Concern may be able to assist you. It represents the interests of older citizens to political decision makers and can provide companionship and support for socially isolated older people. They can provide help with problem solving, visiting and referral for older people, their family or friends.
A home handyman service is a free service that carries out simple repairs and safety in the homes of frail or incapacitated older people.

They have education programmes such as seminars including Enduring Power of Attorney, Safe-with-Age Mature Drivers refresher courses and health and wellness. Seminars provide insight, understanding & Information about enabling people to maintain their full potential in later years.
